Over 30 years.
How did you become involved with proposals?
Recruited to a proposal team as a Technical Writer to support proposal development. Grew from there.
Do you work in a "corporate office" or "home office" environment?
I work in a corporate office.
What do you like best about working in your current environment?
Working with a company that is growing in its field lead by some talented owners and executives that understand the value of employees and actively demonstrate it through actions, not just words.
What do you like least about working in your current environment?
The unwillingness of some subject matter experts to take proposal content development seriously and just produce halfhearted content even when you actively work to help them be successful.
What do you feel is the most challenging aspect of your job?
Managing or balancing the workload to prevent team burnout.
What shortcuts or helpful best practices about working with proposal teams could you share?
There really are not shortcuts. Need to identify the best practices to achieve outstanding results and apply them systematically until they become second nature. Then, watch how quickly you can accomplish remarkable things.
Why/when did you join APMP?
Networking and access to knowledgeable professionals in my field.
What is your method for successfully working with your proposal teams?
Lead by example by actively working beside them. Also, by listening to their ideas—because you never know where the next really great idea will come from.
