How long have you been a proposal manager/specialist/ writer?
I started with Scientific Games as a Proposal Coordinator a year and a half ago. Since then, I've transitioned to Proposal Writer and Proposal Manager.
How did you become involved with proposals?
I applied for a copy editor job, which is more in line with my previous experience in the journalistic world. I got hired on as a coordinator, and I just took off from there.
Do you work in a "corporate office" or "home office" environment?
What do you like best about working in your current environment?
I like the camaraderie between our proposal team. We lift each other up and dive in to help when it's needed. We're a true team.
What do you like least about working in your current environment?
Hounding SMEs for answers to easy questions.
What do you feel is the most challenging aspect of your job?
Juggling a wide spectrum of requirements, content and personalities to get the job done.
What shortcuts or helpful best practices about working with proposal teams could you share?
Have a database of boilerplate content that is easy to pull for the requirements that are seen over and over again.
Why/when did you join APMP?
It is required in my position at SG, but I am thankful for the opportunity to grow in my career.
What is your method for successfully working with your proposal teams?
We follow an Opportunity Management Lifecycle guide for a very well laid out proposal process. It makes communication and deadline determination very easy.
Which type of proposals do you do most? Commercial, government or other?
